Magan is one of my most frequent assistants. As such, she’s been mentally cataloging a lot of ideas for her wedding day. So my next great challenge was helping to mesh all of these wonderful ideas into one cohesive wedding.
One of her first ideas – which needed little help from me – was to use books in her centerpieces. Magan is an avid reader so bringing that part of her personality to her wedding seemed a natural thing. Now if budget had been unlimited, we would have specifically chosen the book titles – favorites from her and Darrell. However, buying 40 or more hardback copies of your favorite books can get expensive….so instead she just looked for attractive books at garage sales and thrift stores. Of course we removed any dust jackets and her mom even left some outside for a few days to try to age them a bit. She also had books donated from her father’s collection that he didn’t really want anymore.
That doesn’t mean she would use just any title – I wish I could remember some of the ones that were vetoed…I think there was one on airplane maintenance.
So each table had a stack of 3 or 4 books with either a vase for the bridesmaids bouquets (repurpose those to save money – they can still have their bouquets at the end of the night!) or a tall vase with sprigs of orchids. We also repurposed lanterns that had been used to line the aisle for some tables and added votives to others. A scattering of rose petals finished the tables nicely.
Don’t worry…there’s plenty more!
